4 Ways To Conquer Entrepreneurial Anxiety

Your Feelings Matter, I Hear You

Anxiety can sometimes get the best of us when we are pursuing our entrepreneurial dreams, living life from the heart and taking big leaps into the unknown.

Here are 4 things that really help deal with my fear gremlins when they pay a visit that I think you’d also benefit from.

  1. Remember your "why": Sometimes being anxious means you're stuck in your head and worried for the future.  So I practice getting out of my own head, by asking myself again "who am I serving, and why I am doing this?" One way I like to keep myself accountable is by posting affirmations/mantras on my wall.  My favourite one is: "How did you step outside your comfort zone today that is propelling your life forward and making a difference with others?" When the problem turns from 'me to we', I can step back and remember the actions I need to practice to attain these goals.  When it's personalized, it's much easier to stay in a state of anxiousness.

  2. Exercise: While meditation is a go-to for me( FYI my favourite free  meditation app is: insight timer), sometimes I’m too wired to sit still and focus on some beach and my breath. So I get moving -either doing HIIT, yoga or going for a walk. Not only does that automatically change my state from stressed to grounded- I get a flood of feel good neurotransmitters that help elevate my mood and decreases my anxiety.  Which means I can address my business and my 'why' with more ease and confidence.

  3. Supplementation and Fuel: As a Naturopathic Doctor I know that how I am feeding/fueling my body has a direct correlation on my mood.  Personally, I avoid processed sugar, my food sensitivities (like yeast, gluten and dairy), and take a variety of natural supplements which include magnesium, fish oil, probiotics, B vitamins, liver herbs and adaptogens. Essential oils, like lavender and sandalwood are also a go-to choice, especially when I'm really anxious or about to do an IG live/or a talk. However, it's best to consult with a Naturopathic Doctor in order to see what's required for your individual needs.

  4. Support: I'm well-practiced now to reach out for help before I snow ball into the dark abyss of my “worst case” scenarios, because I know it has such a powerful impact on my mood and motivation.   I’m aware that I'm prone to ruminate and obsess over things at times and I know that if I don’t have a trusted perspective (coach or a friend) to help get my mindset right or point me into a clear direction - I waste A lot of time feeling anxious and stressed and get very little done.  Which translates into no income. So this is very important!!
